We Made It / Reflection

Image
Yesterday was the day we finally made it to Assisi.  The day started out from Pietralunga, hiking into the wet Umbrian forrest.  Next we had to climb out of the small valley, and on to the hills leading to the surrounding landscape of Assisi.  At one point you can just barely make out the Basilica on the hillside.     The next few hours were spent gradually going down hill, along the beautiful farmscape until eventually you stumble onto a statue of Padre Pio.  Afterwards, We finally made it to the base of Assisi after about 4 hours of walking.  The last challenge is the steep hill leading to the north gate.  This hill was no joke.  It took us about twenty minutes until we finally made it to the top.  From there, a quick walk to the Basilica was in order, as it was what we came all this way to see.  It's stunning beauty is just as I remembered.  My words cannot accurately describe the interior, but fortunately I snap...

YouTube Took Down My Channel

Image
YouTube decided to be funny and delete my channel for "violating community guidelines".  Because of course they wouldn't specify.  It might have been something about posting my blog link in the video description that might have gotten it flagged as a harmful, and therefore, taken down. But at least I have good 'ol Blogspot.     Well, I suppose I could describe to you what I said in the video.  It was going to be a Q&A video, answering questions I have been told about.  Firstly l, to address the concern of my death, I am, in fact, not dead.  Secondly, Luggage.  The company we have planned this trip through, Follow the Cammino, offers a luggage transfer, so someone will pick up your luggage you don't need and take it from hotel to hotel, or where you are staying.  Lastly, there were some questions about SIM cards.  Originally, we bought 2 in the Florence airport, which were Vodafone SIM cards.  They, unfortunately, did...

Sansepolcro and Città di Castello

Image
Sorry for not posting last night, but a 16 mile hike through southern Tuscany will really kill the mood to write.     Monday had us start off from Anghiari to Sansepolcro, which is about 6 miles.  The journey was nothing exciting, except all of it was on a main road with plenty of cars.  The medieval streets of Sansepolcro saved us from the dangers of modern Italian roads.  Once in the city, we stopped for lunch and received our stamps for our pilgrim credentials.  We spent some time looking around the church and the square, which had a market filling the streets.     After leaving Sansepolcro, we ventured into the Tuscan countryside, which is even more beautiful in person.  The rest of the walk was mainly on small country roads, few cars travel.  The last few miles up to Citerna, our destination for the night, is quite a steep one.  Although, the view from the top was definitely worth it.  Our host, and older ...

Journey Through Italy

Image
Today was started in the Charles De Gaulle airport and ended in the cozy town of Anghiari, but what happened in between was a day full of exploration and new companions.   The flight from Atlanta to Paris was long and uneventful, but that was immediately forgotten about when hit with the spaghetti maze that is the Charles De Gaulle airport.  We had an hour and a half lay over, and every minute was used running to our next flight.  Even though we had already been through security in Atlanta l, we had to go through it again.  Couple this with the difficult navigation of what might as well be a burger king jungle gym, and you could imagine how out of breath we were.   The flight to Florence, however, was rather calm with nothing special to note.  It was once we got off the train to Arezzo where things picked up again.  We met up with a friend of Mrs Carter's, and his sister, who took us all around Arezzo.  We walked the antique market all the ...
